Jaïr is a portrait of Salvador.
The video combines pictures from Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco in the Pelhourino area and pictures from Jaïr, young waiter in a bar of the Rio Vermelho area, where I have lived for three months, from march to june 2007. Schumann’s piece that ends the video was the only record in the flat I lived in; the song Coração Materno is a part of my discovery of tropicalism. Two nights in a row, I shot Jaïr while he was working; I gave him 40 reals. My camcorder was damaged beyond repair by the ambiant humidity.
